Wow. It's been awhile since the last blog. I am truely sorry fo the wait. As I sit and think of what amusing tale to tell you I wonder what you are all up too? How is school? How was march break? I had the privilage of goin to down to Florida for my spring break. I had never been and let me tell you it was awesome!! Now as exciting as winter has been there is a better season on the horizan. SUMMER!!!! It's almost here. Only 3 short months. Before you get too excited about summer I have a few more things for you to get excited about. There are all kinds of great things goin on in April. On good friday there are 2 events happening. The first is High Voltage. A youth rally held at Sydenham High School. The second is No Other Name, another youth rally only this one is Nepean at Sir Robert Borden High School. You ca go to Noothername.net to register. On friday the 13th there is Primetime in the city in Kingston at Bethel Church and then on Friday the 20th it's happening in Ottawa. For more details you can check out www.iawah.com

Some definate highlights: The Royal Banquet with the Ultimate Fighting Challenge, the Launching of cantelopes with the Trebuchet, learning about being a "royal priesthood" with Fred, and the best games ever: "Challenge for Complete Conquest of the Century" and "ROTOB"!!!!

Things here at camp are starting to wind up for the summer. Crazy eh? It's only January and summer stuff is already getting worked on. I am so excited for this summer and you should be too! It's gonna be a gooder. The summer here at camp is always full of sweet memories. I have so many good memories of this place! One of my favorite memories of last summer was the ELIMINATION Tether Ball Championship in Rock on Rock. It was one of the greatest sports nights of my life. What will this summer hold for memories? Who knows? I love hearing camp stories and peoples favorite moments at camp. Tell me some of yours. What are you looking forward to for next summer? My dearest friends

Well, Christmas has come and gone, as has the New Year thing. I hope that 2007 finds you well and enjoying life. I think 07 will be an amazing year of adventure and craziness at camp! Camp, as many of you know, is going through some changes. "Krispy", who was absolutely amazing as well as "Dawson" our fearless water-ski teacher have moved on to bigger and better things. We are also losing Tim "Divet" Edwards later in the spring. But, through all of this I really feel that it is God's direction for IAWAH and the ministry it provides. God is leading Krispy, Dawson and Tim on to new adventures!

I really want to hear some feed back on this. Let me know what you think. That's all for now. I will write soon of a crazy and wonderful adventure, and answer the requests for certain stories. Peace for now.

Christmas albums. Why? What is the purpose? Do we need them? Ok so heres the deal. Lately we here at Iawah have been having this argument. What is it that makes artists feel the need to put out a Christmas album? Now I realize that by writting this I run the huge risk of be labbled a scroug, but i'm fine with that. For the record I love Christmas and I find it an incrediably uplifting time of year. I do not however like Christmas albums, all of which are the same.

What makes someone release a Christmas album or "holiday album" if you will? I have a few theories.

The first is that they feel they have reached a point in their career were they have earned the right to put one out. I mean how many new bands that are just getting started put one out? If you have been around long enough you have enough respect that you can put out anything as long as it's your voice. That doesn't mean you should.

The second is that they or their song writters have lost all forms of creativity and they want to put out another cd. What better way to get over the hump then singing songs that you didn't write! I mean all you have to is sing Frosty the Snowman and Away in a Manger and your back on the charts. Geneius.

The third and perhaps the most ignorant is that they feel they can offer something "new" to the age old classics. What more can you do? If you wanna add something new, make something new. Instead all they do is change the key and ad in a few vocal flars. That's what makes it different? That's the same as the Ford Taurus and the Mercury Sable. Same car, different lable. Same song, different voice.

You may be wondering why "the legend" dislikes Christmas albums so much. Well let me tell you why. I used to work the night shift at Home Depot. I would work from 10pm until 6am stocking shelves. Now during the holiday season they played Christmas tunes on the radio. It was nice for the first 3 hours. After that I noticed that the play list was on a loop. The only thing changed was the voices singing the songs. The songs were all the same but the artist changed. Who were the artists? All the people that feel,

The squirrel invasion of 2003!!!!! I can honestly say I don't know what your talking about. I remember 1 chipmunk getting in the kitchen and spending 5 minutes to chase it out but squirrels? You'll have to refresh my memory on that on. Hunting stories. Now I do have many of those but I feel that not everyone is as interested in hunting as myself. I don't really know how to tell a story about music but what I can do is rant about it's glories. So here it goes.

Music has been a part of this world for a long time. It has been reaching into and touching peoples lives for centuries. For myself music is one of the biggest supports that holds me together and I believe that God has given me a love for it. God uses so many thing to help us and ultimately to bring glory to himself. Worship is enjoying things God has made for us and acknowledging the fact that he made us to enjoy them. (that's my defination) Loving music and listen to music with that mindset is worship. Music makes you think. You probably have songs you go to when your mad or happy or depressed. Think about it. If you were to make a soundtrack of you life what would it be? Actually I want you to do that. Think of all the songs that have had impact on you and make a cd. Think of different time periods in you life and the music that goes with it. There might be some kids songs there might be some pretty angry stuff and who knows there might even be some classical stuff in there too. I guess all I am trying to say is that music is really important and I pitty the people that don't have it or want it in their lives.

Scarves. A harmless fashion accessory, or a death trap? This entry explores (and rants about) the dangers of scarf wearing. This is an issue that needs to be dealt with in our society. A society where the "scarf" is an article of winter "fashion", and is not considered dangerous. Is it though? IS IT REALLY???

I did some research and discovered that a large number of people die every year due to scarf related incidents!!! Now, I feel some history of my own scarf fear is in order:

In grade three, I watched a bus safety video which talked of a kid's scarf getting caught in the bus door. Ever since that day I have not liked the idea of tieing something around my neck. (I don't like neck ties for the same reason.) Now here at Iawah there are many individuals that enjoy the warmth value of a scarf. I do not deny the fact that they are warm and in most cases very nice looking, but they are dangerous!!! I personally feel oppressed here because of my phobia.

Now I ask you: How important is the warmth of your neck? Or neck fashion? Is it worth the risk? Think about it. Try to look at the picture above and tell me you don't see a problem! The nice red scarf, which I'm sure is keeping the young man very warm, is blowing freely in the wind, free to get caught in a bus door, around a lamp post, in an elevator shaft or down a sewer grate!!! Maybe you're laughing now, but it can happen people!!! I know it's sounds far out and the chances are slim, but the terror is out there.

My solution: Wear a nice warm toque and zip up your coat. If you feel the need to wear a scarf please, please, please tuck it in! The choice is yours. Fashion and warmth or the possibiltiy of death.

Winter!! What??? Yes my friends it's almost here. And with the coming of snow, summer seems so far away: but it's actually closer then ever! The sooner the snow falls, the sooner the snow melts and the sooner we get back to camp. But there is another way to get back to camp.

How you ask? Winter retreats!! Come to camp and enjoy all the same stuff as the summer but in the freezing cold. Waterskiing, blobbing, swimming, canoeing and even windsurfing.... Well, umm, just kidding, actually none of that will happen at all. But, we will eat delicious food and hang out together. The snow will be all ready for playing and sledding on, and I am sure there will be ice for skating!!!

So if you're 11-14 you can come to Raise the Roof: Jan 19th-21st and if you're 15-19 then you can check out Feb Fest: Feb 23rd-25th. You can get more info by emailing Bonkers at lbarkley@iawah.com, or go to the IAWAH website for registration forms.

Ok, so how many people went to Primetime in the City: Kingston? Lets see a show of hands! (or comments, just click on the word "comments" below). What did you guys think? What did you like most: singing, games, food or T-Hawk's awesome talk?

If you live in the Ottawa area, don't worry we're coming there soon, on November 10th. I get pretty excited about these things, so I hope to see you all there!!!

Now, this may be a very random thing to write about, but I feel the need to share my thoughts on the topic of karaoke. Karaoke is a mystery to me. Do people sing karaoke on a regular basis? I find it interesting that there is also a huge market for christian karaoke. There are actually like 500 websites for christian karaoke cds!!!! Maybe we should call primetime karaoketime: music and words on a screen. That's karaoke!!! :) (I'm kidding. I don't actually think we should do that, but it would be pretty funny.)
Why do people like Karaoke so much? Do you like Karaoke? Do you have a funny Karaoke story to share with us? Does anyone know where Karaoke first started? (click on the word "comments" below and share your thoughts!)

Well, I lied. I said I would write 2 days in a row and I didn't. I'm very sorry and I hope you can all forgive me. I will however write about something a little more serious. Making friends. (no, not "Friends" the TV show! although, this is a nice picture of them!)

Now, this is something I love doing. I love meeting new people and getting to know what makes them tick. I mean what makes them laugh, what makes them smile, what makes them mad and what they're all about. Now, as you may know, I am a very outgoing person and I am not really afraid to talk to anyone. I don't really have any problems going up to people and starting conversations. Not everyone is like me though. Some people choke up and can't get any words out when they meet new people. Others are worried about what people will think about them. That's ok!!! But I think that we put too much pressure on ourselves to impress other people. We think that if we don't make that person laugh within 2 minutes of meeting them then we are never gonna talk to them again. Wrong!!! Be yourself. If you're not a joker, don't joke. If the person is someone you have to impress, then ask yourself is that really the kind of person you wanna be friends with? And another thing. Don't get yourself too cranked on being the "perfect" friend. It's impossible!!! You're not always gonna make everybody happy, and thats okay. Be yourself, enjoy the company of others and make true friends who you can be real with.

Hey there everybody!
I would like to start by thanking you all for your comments and requests. It brings a tear of joy to my eye to know that not only are you folks reading this stuff but are actually asking for more stuff read. I have been asked to write about few different things so here's what I am gonna do. I will do two entries this week!!!! I will do crazy today and serious tomorrow.

Sam has asked me to re-tell a dream that Mongrel had this summer. Now this was not a normal dream. It was a horrible nightmare about Camp Iawah being taken over by the Wolfe Lake society! Now, for the record, the Wolfe Lake society is actually a good group people and this was only dream.

It was a normal saturday morning here at camp. Campers were all packed up and waiting for their parents to come and take them home after another amazing week. Staff were cleaning and getting ready for day off. Now there was something different about this saturday. The Wolfe Lake society was going to be using Lower Iawah to host one of their meetings. As far we all knew this was perfectly fine. By 11:00 am camp was a pretty calm place. No campers, no staff and only a few people hanging around. The Wolfe Lake society arrived and began their meeting. Tim Edwards was part of this meeting and realized that something was up!! Instead of talking about the loons and the fish and the beavers and how to keep Wolfe lake looking as wonderful as it does, they began to talk about an invasion. Tim listen intently to their plan and was shocked when he realized that their planned invasion was for IAWAH!!!!!!!!! Tim tried to leave but was quickly stop from doing so and he was locked in the basement of Derby.

Meanwhile..... All of the staff were enjoying their day off. When the time came to head back to camp, the staff were suprised and shocked to find that camp had been walled off. "Why do we need a wall and gate?" Some people asked. And then they saw the new sign.

The Iawah logo was gone and it said "Wolfe Lake Society Training Facility" What was this? A man came to the gate and said that if the staff tried to return to camp they would never see Tim alive again!!!!
Well, the staff were not gonna let that happen! All of the staff made a plan to take camp back from the Wolfe Lake society. The plan involved canoes, a catapult and a daring midnight rescue.

Now is the part where the dream falls apart. We don't really know what happened in the end except that it was very violent and there were fish involved and all kinds of explosions!!!! In the end, Iawah was saved and Tim Edwards was rescued with (relatively) no problems.

If you would like to know more you're gonna have to ask Mongrel himself. After all, it was his dream. That's all for now and I will talk to you guys again tomorrow. Keep the comments coming.

WHO IS COMING TO PRIMETIME IN THE CITY?

How did I get my name? This is a much asked question in my life. First off. "the legend". Could I ask for a better name? I think not. Now there are many stories out there about my name and where it came from.

The first and most common is that I am the legend of the blob. Yes I have blobbed a watermelon, but that in it's self is not that legendary. Anyone can blob a watermelon. Even minnow!!! Actually I once blobbed a watermelon and then ate it on the gaurding board with minnow.

The second is that I came from deep in the woods where I lived for my entire life. I lived of the resources found in the forest and had fox for a friend. His name was kyle and we were unseperable. In a tragic turn of events kyle found a lady fox and left me all by myself. (ladies are trouble) Now kyle returned to me with a problem. One of his pups had been captured. Being a loyal friend I went to help. That is were I met the lovely people here at Iawah. Some how I had lived in between water skiing and highropes my whole life and did not know camp exsisted. That shows how much I moved around. I became a legend. "the legend" actually. I can't lie that last story is completely untrue and nobody actually thinks that's how I got my name.

And now the third and true story. In 2002 I was a first year staff member with the curse of having no camp name. Now I made a good friend named Kona. He, at the time was the head counsellor. Now Kona and Duffor where having a very important conversation about the new staff. When asked about a certain new staff member Kona answered with, "he's gonna be a legend around here." And that my friends is how I got my name.

Well my dear friends, here is the second installment of "get blogged by the legend". I don't think that campers know that this most glorious of blogs exists yet. But there are a few staff members that have already made a request for me to write about the history of camp. So without further ado. Here we go.

Back in 1956 a man named Charlie Leech founded this place. There wasn't much here but it was Camp Iawah non the less. Iawah, stands for In All Ways Acknowledge Him. Now as far as what has happened between now and then I am not to sure. I mean there have been different directors new buildings and many a good game of brog played in the last 5o years. We now have a blob. That's different then in 56. Really I don't know all that much about Iawah's history except that it happened and Iawah, as we know it is here today for all of us to enjoy.

Now, I was asked to share how I survived the Zombie attacks that have happened here over the years. The first couple attacks happened before my lifetime. So I survived them by not experiencing them. Now the most recent of these attacks occurred this past summer. I will put this very simply. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I made no attempt to avoid being zombieized. It was made very clear to me that the effects would be temporary therefore leaving me in my legendary state. All in all it was a good experience and I enjoyed it very much.

This has nothing to do with zombies or history. October 20th and November 10th are 2 days that you all need to mark on the calendar. Who likes Primetime? I do I do!!!!! You do you say? Well why wait until next summer? Come to Primetime in the city!!!!!! It will held in Kingston on the 20th and in Ottawa on the 10th. There will be further info to come. Get excited and come on out for some good old Iawah style Primetimein.

Hey there everyone. Legend here and this is "get blogged by the legend"!!!!!!!!! Pretty cool eh? So this is how it works. I will write in this thing at least twice a month. Hopefully more. You will be able to comment on what I wrote and if you ask nicely, I might even write about it. Now as you may already know my head works in weird ways so what ends up here might be a little goofy.
